Overseas Ministries Study Center

Each academic year the Overseas Ministries Study Center grants scholarships to several international Christian workers (citizens of nations other than the United States). Applicants—especially those engaged in cross-cultural ministries—are encouraged to apply for scholarships for residency and study toward OMSC’s Certificate in Mission Studies. If accepted they receive furnished accommodations and modest living stipends. Scholarships are granted on a competitive basis. We receive seven applications for every scholarship available and many deserving applicants must be denied due to a lack of resources.

Scholarships are awarded to

• Church leaders from countries where faith is often restricted
• Church leaders from impoverished countries
• Artists from Asia who proclaim the Gospel through their art
• Senior administrators of Majority-World denominations and universities

In recent years, OMSC has welcomed scholarship recipients from numerous countries including China, DR Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.

Anderson International Scholarships

The Overseas Ministries Study Center announces the Gerald and Joanne Anderson International Scholarships. Scholarships are designated for international Christian workers (citizens of nations other than the U.S.), especially those engaged in cross-cultural ministries.

Scholarships require a residency at OMSC of eight to ten months. Furnished accommodations and a modest living stipend are provided. Scholarships are granted on a competitive basis and are awarded on the condition that recipients attend all of OMSC’s weeklong seminars in cross-cultural ministry. At the end of their year of residence awardees must produce a written evaluation of their experience at OMSC, indicating how they expect the program to affect their future ministry.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• A minimum of ten years’ experience in Christian ministry
• Endorsement by their mission agency or church
• Residence at OMSC for eight to ten months
• Enrollment in OMSC’s Certificate in Mission Studies program,
  requiring participation in all of the weeklong seminars
• Commitment to return to their place of ministry

Applications should be submitted as far in advance as possible. Scholarship stipends will be distributed on a monthly basis after recipients are in residence. Families with children are welcome. Successful applicants will be responsible for their own travel costs and medical insurance (required).

Doane Missionary Scholarships

Two $3,000 scholarships will be awarded each year on a competitive basis to missionaries who apply for residence for eight months to a year with the intention of earning the OMSC Certificate in Mission Studies. The Certificate requires participation in fourteen or more of the weekly mission seminars at OMSC and the writing of a final paper reflecting on the awardee’s missionary experience in light of the studies undertaken at OMSC.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Completion of at least one term in cross-cultural ministry
• Endorsement by mission agency or church
• Commitment to return to their place of ministry
• Residence at OMSC for eight months to a year
• Enrollment in OMSC Certificate in Mission Studies program

The OMSC Certificate program allows time for family responsibilities and some deputation. Families with children are welcome. OMSC’s Doane Hall and Great Commission Hall offer fully furnished apartments ranging up to three bedrooms. Scholarship awards will be distributed on a monthly basis after recipients are in residence.

MacDougall Senior Administrator Scholarship

This fellowship specifically for non-Western Christian senior administrators from Africa and Asia who would like to spend one or two sabbatical semesters at the Overseas Ministries Study Center, participating in community life, and availing themselves of opportunities for professional networking within the larger Christian, business and academic communities in New Haven, especially the Yale School of Management. One scholarship will be awarded each year from 2009 to 2013. Scholarships, which are awarded on a strictly competitive basis, provide for travel, medical insurance, accommodations, and living costs.

Recipients of this fellowship will be able to use the Yale Divinity School library. This involves no duties or remuneration, but it does provide full access to all of the wonderful libraries of Yale University, including the Day Missions Library. By special arrangement with the Yale School of Management, recipients of this fellowship are welcome to audit classes on a space available basis and with the permission of the professor.

Martens Latin American Scholarship

The Overseas Ministries Study Center announces the Martens Latin American Scholarship. Martens Scholarships are designated for Latin American Christian leaders with a minimum of ten years of ministry experience. Cross-cultural missionaries are especially encouraged to apply, but applications from church leaders and theological educators are also welcome. 

Scholarships require a residency at OMSC of eight to ten months. Furnished accommodations and a modest living stipend are provided. Scholarships are granted on a competitive basis and are awarded on the condition that recipients attend all of OMSC’s weeklong seminars in cross-cultural ministry. At the end of their year of residence awardees must produce a written evaluation of their experience at OMSC, indicating how they expect the program to affect their future ministry.
