Medical Insurance Requirements
All applicants who are accepted for long-term study and residence must have medical insurance coverage as required by the United States Government. Such coverage shall include:
-
Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per person per accident or illness;
-
Repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500;
-
Expenses associated with medical evacuation in the amount of $10,000; and
-
A deductible no greater than $500 per accident or illness.
If you do not have insurance that meets these qualifications, you can purchase a policy after you arrive at OMSC. Our staff will be happy to assist you with purchasing a suitable medical insurance policy.
The cost of purchasing medical insurance coverage in the United States varies according to the age of the applicant, and the length of time they will be in residence. In general, each applicant between the ages of 30 and 49 should plan on paying approximately $64–$92 per month for coverage. Dependent children would be covered at an approximate cost of $26 per month for each child.
Please keep in mind that OMSC scholarships do NOT cover the cost of medical insurance.
