Fr. Luke A. Veronis, priest of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Webster, Massachusetts, (http://schwebster.org), invites pastors and church mission committee members to “share inspiring stories and pictures from an apostolic story” when he discusses “the amazing resurrection of a Church in the only country in the world that outlawed any and every expression of religion for twenty-four years.” He describes Albania as “an ancient land where the Apostle Paul preached and in which the Christian Church flourished for 1,900 years (before being) destroyed and closed” under the atheistic Communist rule of Enver Hoxha. Twenty years later, the church experienced what Veronis calls “an amazing resurrection.”
In addition to parish responsibilities, Veronis is director of the Missions Institute of Orthodox Christianity at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Brookline, Massachusetts; and an Overseas Ministries Study Center Board of Trustees member. He became interested in Orthodox missions as a Holy Cross student and soon thereafter was a missionary in Africa. In 1994 he relocated to Albania. Veronis is author of Go Forth! Stories of Missions and Resurrection in Albania (2010).
